My son was sent a CD of his x-rays, it's on a CD for windows.

It has 1,185 files on it, total 99.4 MB.

AdvancedViewerLocation.txt
autorun.bat
autorun.inf
CommonLaunch.bat
data...Folder
DICOMDIR
DiscView.htm
QuickViewer.txt
repair.bat

Won't Autorun in Win7 VM, says things like stopped Search Engine Change & no Viewer available.

Looked at a files that within said placeholder only,,, LOL

Now I found3 .JPGs of X-Rays that I can display easily, is there more or in the other 1,182 files that I can't see?

In my experience the software medical companies try to autoinstall won't work in OSes later than Windows 95. You may be able to find third party software that can view the files, although to be honest the best option is to make a copy of the data on the CD to a HD so you can later burn that to a new CD if a doctor in the future wants to look at that data, assuming they've lost access to your electronic medical records for some reason.

Thanks MB, I can try Win95... OOPs, 95 is gone, tried in XP, same no soap, but after examining more files, I'm convinced I know why Medical is so expensive, disc has 100s of .dlls. back arrow icons, next arrow icons, & .htm files, a McKesson icon,,, whoot... all so you can view the 3 jpgs of x-rays!

Have made a DMG, iMac could not read CD, but reads DVDs OK.

Makes it look specialized, I'll ask my son how much it cost him & have him ask what is supposed to be on the CD. :(

When I had an MRI of my back they gave me a CD. Honestly I don't know where it is anymore but I occasionally find it and think I should look at it, then promptly don't do anything with it (because I found it while on another mission) and lose track of it.

http://dicom.nema.org/documents/Displaying-Medical-Images-from-a-CD-2014-05-09.pdf

I found some Dicom viewers Here (if indeed that is the format the CD is in) free to download:

https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/resources/support-documentation/dicom-ultrasound

You are probably going to have to ask the Hospital or the Doctor which one
will open the CD you have.

also found this info:
https://www.mckesson.com/documents/providers/mckesson-radiology-station/
It's a pdf download file.

Dicom media disk specs:

A Doc giving you a CD of your images is like a parent trying to be helpful by giving you a rotary phone.

It's the thought that counts?

Hope you get it working! Years ago my mom had a heart attack & stroke combo you get with AFIB, she got a CD and it had software to work on her iMac, maybe some it was some Java thing? Sorry I don't remember it was several years ago. Mom's doing okay, turned 90 in July :) this was around 6 years ago I think.

kjk555... thank you, after a lot of reading, grinding teeth about giving them info, they didn't like my getnada.com eMail addy, then giving in & downloading Horos.app... yep, the whole mess just amounts to 3 jpegs of the x-rays, so called Dicom files, LOL!

Anyway, solves the question of what those 1,182 other files on the Disc are for... to quite a TV dentistry insurance ad where the Doctor whispers the Nurse… It’s all got to come out… wilst looking at an x-ray of his wallet?!

Rich, thanks for your input, & tell Mom hi from me! :) :coffee:

Didn't you look in the DICOMDIR, which looks like a directory? That usually houses the player on the CD/DVD and you can simply launch it and the files should already be in the right place for it to autoload. That's how mine are. Also, DICOM files are typically viewed more readily in something like iCAT, but usually only medical offices have licenses for that app/suite.

DICOMDIR is a 2,506 Byte file that in Terminal says...

Last login: Thu Dec 19 09:11:39 on ttys002
/Volumes/2019.11.09_1133/DICOMDIR ; exit;
im21-2:~ bd1$ /Volumes/2019.11.09_1133/DICOMDIR ; exit;
-bash: /Volumes/2019.11.09_1133/DICOMDIR: cannot execute binary file
logout
Saving session...
...copying shared history...
...saving history...truncating history files...
...completed.

[Process completed]

Asks me to choose what to run it in Windows®.

It seems that PhotoShop might open them if you have it somewhere and it supports the particular format:

Thanks Avon, very interesting, I'll try CC3 when I can boot to an OS that runs it.
