We use Firefox on all our Macs, but with the arrival of the iPhone in our household, I find I need to access Safari on the traveling MBP.

I went to look for AdBlock Plus and was met with an Apple site that wanted me to upgrade to El Cap and Safari 10.

I looked at ABP's website and it seems to be just fine with Safari 9 - indeed it begins with Safari 6.
https://adblockplus.org/category/adblock-plus-safari/

Is there any reason I can't/shouldn't install this extension which I love in Firefox?
I did install the app already on the iPhone with no issues.

I'd try it, it's very easy to undo if it doesn't work.

In fact, I just installed from the Developer's site & seems fine in 10.8.5>Safari 9.0.2

Adblock Plus is a sellout. They run a pay-to-whitelist scam that lets a TON of ads through. You should see if µBlock Origin will install for Safari 9. I guarantee it's a thousand times better than ABP and they won't sell out on you.

µBlock Origin for Safari

µBlock Origin for Safari

Only if you keep the "allow non-intrusive advertising" checkbox checked, the default in Filter Preferences. I never see any ads anywhere. None zero zip.

I had the same reaction as you, WZZZ, I never see ads with ABP on Firefox on the mac - I too have unchecked that allow intrusive ads check box.
On the iPhone - I downloaded the ABP app, but I can't find a filter list. I can't find ABP prefs or how to activate them and how to do all of this in Safari on the phone.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the filters on the phone?

If I can't figure out how to do that, I'd try to find- µBlock Origin as suggested by Squishy Tia, but again how to make it work on Safari on the phone?

Further help anyone?

EDIT - I see where ABP on the iPhone has to be activated and I've done that.
I also selected don't allow non-intrusive ads and I've seen the box to update filters - which I've done.

I guess you don't get to select which filters, ABP app does it for you?!?
