I have the chance to get a 2011 Mac Mini i5 2.5 GHz (the kind with separate video card) 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, 500 GB HDD for $175 locally. Craigslist. The guy says it works fine, he has just upgraded because he and his wife are into WOW and he's selling one Mini and keeping the other to use as a server. I read up about the 2011 Mini and it seems okay, though I guess a bunch of Apple's last Macs with independent GPUs can be iffy. I wouldn't want to spend $600 but comparing with Ebay it seems a fair price.

Sounds good to me. Open it up when you get it and blow all the dust out, be sure to blow in the reverse the direction on the exhaust before you button it up, that should dislodge some.

So long as you keep the dust to a minimum and aren't using it in the middle of arizona without air conditioning, it'll probably live a long life. Most of the chip separation issues I see are from people who wouldn't know compressed air if I threw a can at them.

Right now it's another one of those cases where I don't know if it is sold and the post is still up, or if the guy is just slow responding. :snail:

If I do get it I'll have to order yet another cable since my monitor doesn't do HDMI.

Edit:
Apparently still for sale but this guy must be the only iPhone owner in the USA who only checks his email every other day. Plus they don't really get to the point and say something like, "Okay, 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at ______?" :nothappy: It seems to be a vague sometime between 3 seconds from now to next Tuesday morning.

You mention the seller is into WOW, so maybe that's where he is. In total immersion.

Maybe they're playing WoW in VR using their phone as the display. Can't stop to answer messages, I'm tanking on a boss.

Well the last thing he said was, "Still available, I've been busy with work and the kids. I'm working from home today and I'm off from Thursday to Tuesday morning

Sent from my iPhone"

at noon today. I sent several replies requesting a time to view it, as early as this afternoon if possible but otherwise whenever he chose. No response. At 8:45 pm I see the post has been deleted on Craigslist so maybe he reneged and sold it to somebody else.

I think "working from home" is code for "tanking a boss."

Sorry man. People on craigslist are flighty.

Flightly yes. Got an email saying the person pulled the notice because they don't have time to 'deal with visitors right now' and may re-post at some stage. Uh, sure, after just saying they had the next 4 days off from work. I mean how long does it take to show somebody a computer boots, shut down, count a wad of cash handed to you, then "goodbye", just once?

Commiserations on the loss of the mini. Sounds like the guy may not be the best one to deal with anyway.

I recall the stories of folks being robbed at a craigslist exchange place: seller notifies "buddy" that someone with $600 cash is showing up at 3PM, the rest is history...

btw Limnos, did you get my PM on an app for your trip?

He has no time to deal with visitors, he has WoW to play.

At my last employer we had a surprising number of people turn up late to their job interview because they were playing WoW. I don't think any of them got the job. Then again the company was in the game industry, it'd probably be a good idea to get some people who played games working there... (no joke, it was just me and another guy, out of 100+ people)

I don't have any problem with World of Warquest: I got... um... a girlfriend because her (ex)husband was too busy playing it to do any... um... you know... anything else.

Heh. With patch 7.3 it's about two hours of immersion and then....time gated until next week. Not exactly riveting at the moment, so not sure why he's so occupied. :P

Judging by his lack of responses after initial inquiries to see/pick up the machine, he's one of those elitist jerk raiders that sells carries and then bails with the gold at the first chance. Good riddance.

When I was trying to get my first mini ( G4 1.5GHz ) it took a bit of contacting various sellers on Craigslist. I did luck out in that once someone did reply, they actually wanted to sell it and not waste our time.

That price also seemed to be too good to be true. You might have dodged a bad situation!
