I have a new I5 iMac. Not until yesterday had I seen a notification on a website that that indicated that this particular site required Adobe FLASH. My background experience mainly deals with older Macs (pre G5 PPC, where FLASH was no longer supported by Adobe. I HAVE A MACBOOK 2,1 LAPTOP and a 3rd Gen. iPad that seems to work fine without FLASH. Would you recommend me loading FLASH on the iMac?

If it works okay without flash then don't install it. More places are moving away from it but several of my frequently visited sites still require it so I have it installed.

In fact the don't-install-it-unless-you-need-it guide work for pretty much anything.

There is one use for Flash that still has rather high merit, and that's as a forced fallback to HTML5 in Safari, which while you can stop autoplay, you cannot stop autobuffering (as in they still load even if they aren't played, eating up precious bandwidth on low caps or on mobile). That and the sites that obviously need it. Or on Youtube where you might want to download the video so you can watch it later (easier to do with Flash than with HTML5, which is ultra restrictive when it comes to user options).

Basically, if it weren't for the security vulnerabilities, Flash would be perfectly fine in all installations.

Now if only I could uninstall webkit and still have Safari work...hangs on virtually all videos, twitter, and Facebook on 10.12.4 for any computer with an HD4600 Intel IGP even if it's disabled...

Thanks ALL for your input. Will follow "Don't need it -> Don't install it".

I concur with the consensus. Most of the time when I hit a website that wants Flash I... just find a similar website that doesn't want it.
