Its only for "current" graphics cards supported by the crimson driver or newer, which I think was 2017. So unless your ATI/AMD card was created in 2017 you're safe.

I keep waiting for them to deprecate my RX480.

By the way, my CAPS LOCK key was stuck when I started this thread – the title therefore is in ALL CAPS. It’s been a while, but I figured it might be helpful for others to understand why it was typed in ALL CAPS. Feel free to discuss.

Ah... your crackin' rate might require ALL CAPS ! ;)

I believe you can edit your title.

It finally got warm enough to open the windows. Of course its supposed to go down to the 40s tonight but at least for now it'll be under 90 degrees by the PC.

Congrats team! :)

Anybody know why Ars Technica Team Beef Roast has been submitting 1 block a day for awhile?

It looks like they're focusing on other projects.

SETI@Home and most of the rest were folded into BOINC. For a long time distributed.net had a BOINC client although I heard it was retired a little while ago.

"Winning" in and of itself is always cool, but it's not as much fun to "win" over teams that have taken their toys and left the field to play some other kids . . . it's a "hollow" "victory." :coffee:

BOINC is cool, I played with one of them for a very brief moment, before getting back to this team . . . picking up towels for the varsity machines, etc . . . doing my bit when my machine can fit it in to its busy schedule. :classic-eek:

TTG - it's great to have some new blood on the team! :welcome: The project overall is kind of dated and it's hard to attract new members! distributed.net themselves seem to focus more on OGR

@mc68k:

Thanks for that . . . my pleasure to try to help out . . . I do what I can . . . it's a tad bit like running an "electrical V-8" to get some stats posted by way of the MacPro . . . . But, there is a touch of "amusement" to hearing the machine "rev up" . . . when firing up the distributed.net script . . . and then seeing the slow climb up the stats list . . . for a feeling of some progression. :snail: :coffee:

Great work everyone...

One curious note, anybody remember Detective John Kimble?

Impressive submissions in May!

Oh myyyyy. Man it has been quite a while. I found that I am STILL listed in there, although last block was... 2014! Did the e-mail me my password, whoa, now I know what e-mail I registered under. Looks like I first started it in... 2002.

ALL these years later and I have NO ida how to set this up again... AND I now think I may have used "paulc" as an ident in the old days, not Riverside... anyway, someone have a link handy on how to set up getting it rolling again? Can I assume if I use my dnetc e-mail I'll automatically be on the xlr8 team?

He who stacks pork, how the hell are ya? Looooong time, eh...

Hmmm, sometimes it takes a while for things to reappear in my brain cells... didn't I read that it was "solved" a while back?

Could you have had 2 IDs? I definitely remember paulc !??

You could submit under your old original eMail, I still do, or you could click on the I want to join this team if using a different eMail.

The old eMail I submit under hasn't been valid as an eMail addy for at least a decade, it still adds to our team under that name/user.

OMG... I see how we got here... I was Riverside in the ASC, but the more I think about it, the more I realize I was always paulc on xlr8. Wonder of I can change what I started here to paulc without doing a whole new account? No biggee if ya can't, I'll just keep Riverside.

As for dnetc, yes I'd want to hook in with my existing "account."

Not terribly sure which is the right client to get... I DO have a GTX 980, so would it be [x86/CUDA-3.1] or [x86] that will give best results?

On your account I can edit the name to be paulc or whatever... might have to change your PW & PM or eMail it to you... at least in theory that should work.

You could run both.

I think Cuda & openCL is for the GPUs, x86 for CPUs, GPUs are hundreds of times faster, CPU is for the OGR runs...

Wait for confirmation on the driver to use nfrom others with that card.

K, I'll chill until other have a chance to weigh in. Run both? As in one runs off the CPU, the other off the GPU? Oh myyyy.

Did some more digging, seems only 5.7% of the "space" to solve RC5-72 has been computed and dnet themselves are now sponsoring the prizes. With a 6 core Westmere, numbers SHOULD fly compared to my old PPC numbers.

Bovine 1.3 work on any of the clients?

Yeah, go ahead and change this account to show paulc... more sure now that's how the old xlr8 guys may remember me.
