For MANY years, I was married to my Shuffle... then one day I turned it ff and it lay neglected. Few years went by and now I'd like to get it going... looks like iot isn't taking a charge, bummer. I see some old used one selling for 150 bucks, good god not in this lifetime!

And now we have NO iPods at all from the fruit. One by one, they are ditching all the products I want to buy (expandable tower I can afford to buy, iPods). ALL my music (90 some off gigs worth) is in AAC... is there ANYTHING vaguely like the shuffle on the market I can use?

I got an iPod nano (3rd gen) from my last employer as a christmas present. Looks like a regular old iPod except it's nearly flat and way, way smaller. I loved that thing. Then one of the data pins on the 30-pin connector went south (and by south I mean it fell out of the connector) and that was the last time I was able to update the contents of the iPod. Works with what's on there, charges fine, just can't put anything new on there or remove anything from it. Kind of... sad.

I imagine any OS that can run iTunes will support both the 3 & 4. Once you upgrade to Catalina dressing, though, all bets are off. They replaced iTunes with multiple applications in Catalina, who knows how far back they went in terms of support. Anything that they're still selling is certainly supported, but beyond that... they probably won't go back very far.

Hmm. I wonder where it went. I mean, I can't update the content, but it has every single Futurama episode from the original run on it. Plus a lot of music.

I forget how big the iPod nano was, still haven't found it. I think it was 16GB? I specifically crunched the video files down in resolution so they'd still look fine on that screen. I really liked that form factor. The company name and logo and personalized a thank you message is inscribed on the back, so I was bummed when it died. Those things are glued together with really tight tolerances, I probably could get it apart but I know I'd mar something in the process.

Futurama. It's the current record holder for the longest time between a show being cancelled and then brought back. Although its cancelled again. The last season was kinda meh, they used all their best ideas in the first season after they returned and got a bunch of the original writers to work on a single episode (I think one writer used the money he got paid to write the episode to take a vacation to Italy... which he spent writing the episode), but cable tv budgets aren't the same as broadcast tv budgets so they couldn't do that forever (or at least the guys who did that for a single episode wouldn't opt to get paid the same amount regularly).

Oops, looks like I was wrong. They were only available in 4GB and 8GB versions. Mine was 8GB.

According to Wikipedia 4GBs were only available in silver, while 8GBs were available in silver, turquoise, mint green, black, and red. Mine was black, so I had an 8GB model.

The video files were crunched down really small, they were 100MB to 150MB for a 30 minute show (well, without commercials it's like 22 mins or so). You can do that when you're looking at them on a 320x240 screen.

If I remember right the size is etched on the back cover.

I think iTunes 12 still works with literally any iPod ever made. I don't know about Music or the last version of iTunes. Unfortunately my classic iPod is very dead, and my nano is unusable due to a failed battery so I can't test. I'll dig around and see if I can find another iPod with a scroll wheel buried somewhere in my boxes of junk. I don't think I still have one, but maybe...
