I didn't get a message telling me there was an update on either of the computers we use daily.
When I turned on the travel MBP for last minute work before departure, I get an update reminder.

All three are on El Cap.
I can't find system requirements for Firefox 52.7.2esr. When I click the link it tells me to sign up for emails.
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/o ... tions/all/

We leave very soon (as soon as they get Newark up and running again!) and I'd like to do this before we go. Does anyone know where to find out if this if right for El Cap?

It's just a point update for a secuity patch for the 52esr, not a new version--no problem sith El Cap. Was released on the 13th, last week.

Besides, even the new FF version, the Quantum, will run on that OS. There will even be a few more before the 52esr support ends, some time end of May or June (could be 52.9, just guessing), when the esr will become whatever then is the latest Quantum, right now at 59.0.2 59.0.1.

Thanks, WZZZ, for the speedy reply.
I'll do the update now on the traveling MBP. The others can wait.

Wonder why we didn't get update warnings on the ones we daily use?

Are you surviving the storm? EWR hopefully will be up and running tomorrow.

Check your update settings. Surviving quite well so far--not too windy, so hoping for power not going down. Shoveling heavy, wet snow for car tomorrow, or when possible, another story. Fingers crossed for you for Newark tmw.

Looks like real EOL for the 52esr will be much later than I thought, at least until the end of August.

What’s the plan?

In order to accommodate the group policy implementation, we are making Firefox 60 our next ESR version and will be following this plan:

May 8th – ESR 60.0 released (we’d love feedback from early adopters at that point and will be sharing a feedback form through the enterprise mailing list)
July 3rd – ESR 60.1 released
August 28th – End of life for ESR 52 and release of ESR 60.2.0. No further updates will be offered for ESR52 and an update to ESR 60.2.0 will be provided through the application update service

Yeah they usually keep support alive until the .2 release of the successor. The very concept of ESR drives some people up the wall. How could anyone not be interested in the latest and greatest ideas put into web browser form.

No rush, but I wanted to be prepared, so have FF59 fully customized, looking very much like my esr--except for those addons that will never get ported, or which can't behave the way they used to. Big help for this was https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/releases (mainly used the much earlier 1.5.3, but swapped in some parts of the newer releases--A bit tricky at first figuring out how to use it. Nowhere near as convenient as CTR, same developer, since you don't get to see changes in real time, plus many of the terms employed are head scratchers. Then added a bunch of other CSS from various places. One very good resource is https://www.reddit.com/r/FirefoxCSS/ Plus, with several addons and css for font size, am now able to reproduce most of the behavior of Status-4-Evar.

FF59

If push comes to shove, I can probably make do with the FF Quantum. It's more awkward to do certain things, but at least it's no longer so atrocious to look at--as long as Mozilla doesn't rip out the functionality of the Chrome folder in the profile. Also NoScript 10 there has come a long way since its first release. Not so bad to use now, once you get the hang of the new UI.

And then have installed Waterfox, which is still XUL based, allowing all my current esr addons to keep functioning. Main problem there is sole developer is a bit tardy with security patches and needed updates. Other than that, pretty much behaving like my esr, except it's based on FF 56, not 52, so had to do a bit of tweaking.

Should be getting an update very soon
