I'm about to give up trying to make this work but thought I'd ask if anyone else is doing this.

In 10.10 and below I would add an Active Directory server to Macs as an LDAP server. This allowed Contacts (and Mail) to query the server for a list of names of people in the company and get their email address. Had to come up with a custom string to query but it's one found all over the internet and its worked for ages.

In 10.11 this broke. Based on logs it appears that 10.11+ isn't actually logging in with the username you enter for the LDAP server. Instead it's logging in with the username you enter @fully.qualified.domain.of.server.here and nothing I do seems to be able to stop it from attaching the server name to the login name.

The only solution I've found is to enable unauthenticated (anonymous) LDAP queries, which is crazy stupid.

Anyone else tried this and have something that works? I've read tons of people asking about how to get this to work again but haven't found anyone describing a solution.

I have a feeling that if I fully enrolled a Mac in AD that it would work like its supposed to, although from what I recall under older versions of OS X I still had to roll the query myself in that situation. And I might get some pushback if I polluted someone's perfect Macs-never-get-viruses system with Microsoft. :classic-eek:
