You all probably know this already but...
Gone is WOT?

What's a good substitute?

Mr H was reading the NYTimes and this message popped up:
"Web of Trust 20170120 and lower has been blocked for your protection."

EDIT to fix/ update:
I looked at his add-on tool manager and it showed an older version of WOT - then I checked mine, same version as his and then I just got the warning message yet. We both are showing that we have v 20151208 - updated Dec 24 2015!
I haven't updated since then because I haven't been offered updates apparently when I click check for updates. I last updated what was offered for updates in Dec 2016.
I checked for updates for the version I have of WOT and it doesn't show any as available (maybe because we are on Snow??) - though the warning talks of 20170120 a more recent one than the one I'm running.

Then I found these and there are more out there:
http://www.pcmag.com/news/349328/web-of ... be-trusted
http://www.pcmag.com/news/349328/web-of ... be-trusted
http://news.thewindowsclub.com/web-of-t ... own-86981/

Then looked at this:
I clicked on the WOT info page on Firefox and read this:
"Why was it blocked?
Versions 20170120 and lower of the Web of Trust add-on send excessive user data to its service, which has been reportedly shared with third parties without sufficient sanitization. These versions are also affected by a vulnerability that could lead to unwanted remote code execution.

Who is affected?
All Firefox users who have these versions of the Web of Trust add-on installed.

What does this mean?
Users are strongly encouraged to disable the problematic add-on or plugin, but may choose to continue using it if they accept the risks described.
When Mozilla becomes aware of add-ons, plugins, or other third-party software that seriously compromises Firefox security, stability, or performance and meets certain criteria, the software may be blocked from general use. For more information, please read this support article.
Blocked on January 24, 2017. View block request."

This is old news from November. Can't find a good alternative. The only possibility is Bitdefender TrafficLight. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... fficlight/ Tried it and it's junk. Uninstalled it almost immediately. Hasn't been updated in quite a while. I found that it greenlights known malicious and adware sites, plus other problems.

Like I said at the beginning, you all probably know this.
Why oh why did it take so long for Firefox to tell me?

I hope WOT didn't steal anything interesting from me, but we do no online banking so it can't do us much harm... maybe...

From what I remember, Firefox pulled WOT amost immediately. But don't know if it was blocked then or when, because as soon as I found out about it, which was early on, I got rid of it. Didn't wait around for them to block it. No idea what they could have gotten from me.
