Hundreds of these within a minute or two, as soon as the 58 opens:

"plugin-container[1986]: CFPasteboardRef CFPasteboardCreate(CFAllocatorRef, CFStringRef) : failed to create global data"

Only with the 58, never with the 52.6esr.

Very curious, since no plugins are allowed + Flash has been completely removed. No idea how this relates to the pasteboard, if that's what this means, since this log spamming occurs without pasting or going near the clipboard.

Only hitting dead ends when I try to troubleshoot this. Maybe a Mozilla bug, but not finding anything related.

(Asked yesterday at Mozilla support, but predictably, no replies at all.)

Seems to have happened in the past also...

We can use "sudo -u $(ls -l /dev/console | awk '{print $3}')" in front of any GUI Dialog (jamfhelper or applescript)" to solve the issue in OS X 10.11.

sudo -u $(ls -l /dev/console | awk '{print $3}') jamfhelper command

So, I found out why this is happening but only have a lame workaround:

pboard seems to be locked by something.

The workaround is:

Launch Activity Monitor
Find pboard process and quit the process.
Restart applications where you would like to copy from or paste into.
Relaunch (through Option-Command-Escape) Finder to fix dragging and dropping.

plugin-container is the Firefox plugin isolation process, if that helps.

Thanks both. Problem is I'm not doing anything with the clipboard when this happens, and no plugins activated either. And it only happens in FF58, never in the 52esr. If it's coming somehow from the plugin container in the 58, no idea what to do about. Plus, I just force quit pboard, but doing that made no difference.

That link to jamf--already found earlier--seems specifically about that program. Doesn't seem applicable here.

Think I'll just ignore it, since the spamming happens only for the first second and then seems to stop.

I wonder if it has something to do with editing that info.plist in 58?

Can FF58 be installed for just a new user for a test?

Yeah, that was my first thought when I first saw this happening a few days ago. So restored that info.plist to its original state. But doing that made no difference.

But in addition to the log spamming, plugin container is sometimes crashing with the 58. No idea what's triggering that--no plugins being used at all. Always the same thread. Curious, as I thought that Mozilla had stripped out all the XUL from the 57+.

Filed a bugzilla bug report, but not holding my breath for a reply any time soon.

That parent process = ???, I would think it's looking for 58 & not seeing it.

Booted to Sierra with same info.plist edited there to make the esr the default. Not getting these logs there. Weird combination of FF58 with 10.11.6, I suppose.

As for "missing process???", plugin-container.app + its executable present in the 58 package in the 10.11.6. Not quite sure how the 58 would be the missing process.

I briefly started up 10.10 and 58 last night and didn't see any spamming. There is a short period of a lot of log entries being created by 58 but the most each individual entry repeats is two or three times.

OK, will have to restore that info.plist to its original state once more, just to be sure.

Just wondering, did you rebuild the Launch DB after editing the plist?

Yeah, as said above, didn't get any of this just now with 10.12--info.plist edited to make the esr default there as well--so maybe something weird happening with 10.11 and the 58. Never happens with the esr.

BD, yes did rebuild LSD. Doesn't change default browser without doing that.

Update: just restored that plist to its original state--made no difference. Log spamming continues unabated.

No fix in sight. All the hits I'm getting for this--although none specifically related to Firefox--seem to implicate 10.11. Very strange that it involves plugin-container and pasteboard, none of which I'm using when this happens. I'm thinking it must be some bug peculiar to 10.11. Very weird that only a specific version of Firefox can trigger this.

Heard back from bugzilla, who were able to reproduce. Someone there has decided the issue is--not much surprise here--"Core:: Plug-ins."
