In my Notifications preference panel, where all apps are shown, two apps appear in the list twice: Dropbox and Google Chrome. Why might that be? Neither Delete key is able to get rid of the extra listing, even when trying different modifier keys. How odd.

Just noticed that both Brave & Vivaldi had dual entries, (both are Chrome Browsers without Goggle), Backspace deleted the 2nd ones here/

I find this is the file that holds that info...

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ncprefs.plist

If you edit it or wish to move it be sure Sys Prefs is Quit & not running.

I would get Onyx for the OS you are using, then run LaunchServices in Maintenance. This should clear the LaunchServices database, which might be responsible for the behavior you are seeing. Close all open applications before running.

This is what it looks like for HSierra.

Thanks, guys. But, it so happens that I last week ran Onyx's Automation tab (only whatever is selected as a default; I didn't change anything) and a rebuild of Launch Services is part of that. It doesn't have any effect. Actually, I've been running that Automation routine every month because, after doing so, Google Chrome launches much quicker. I use Chrome only to run Hulu TV and, ordinarily, after only several days, Chrome returns to launching like a dozing cow.

Mike, try the Brave browser, it's Chrome without Chrome's drawbacks.
