I don't know what I was thinking (or if I was at all). I clicked on the icon for my Time Machine backup database and did a Get Info.

It's been "Calculating Size" for over 90 minutes. Fearing trouble, I've disabled backups until the calculating stops. Is there a way to have it stop calculating? Closing the Get Info window doesn't do it.

Don't do this.

Aha! Sounds like that would work. Thanks, BD.

Yeah, Finder is the process doing the calculating, and Apple doesn't let you back out of a process once its started, so a reboot is the only way. Thankfully in Finder's case a reboot just means a force quit to relaunch it, but when something gets passed off to a background daemon it turns into the more the annoying kind.
