This has been frustrating me for a few versions of OSX now. When using multiple monitors, the dock decides it’s got a larger e-penis than me, and decides to choose a monitor at random to display on, and I don’t seem to have any control over it. Anyone know how to kick the dock in the nuts so that it just stays on one monitor? 10.13.6

Thanks

Assuming you've checked Sys Prefs>Dock...

In the old days this would work...
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.

Then move these files to the Desktop...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist

Set Dock Prefs

Reboot & test.

The dock moves with your primary selected display, so when the dock moves, check your Displays prefpane to make sure your primary display didn't change too. That would be the one with the menubar at the top of the display indicator window inside the prefpane.

I thought that Apple changed the dock so it appears on all monitors now, based on what monitor you're using? It defaults to one monitor but if you start using another monitor there's like a ghostly half-there dock at the bottom you can bring to life by mousing down to and using.

Sorry every time I setup a Mac in multimonitor mode someone gets really flustered and kicks it back into mirroring mode because they can't handle anything but mirroring, so I don't see real multimonitor setups for long.

I’m finding the problem persists when I am using Photoshop and Dreamweaver on different displays. Going between the applications seems to confuse the poor ignoramus dock. When I quit the applications, the dock remains confused. The only fix I have found (it’s temporary) is to go into System Preferences -> Dock, and from there tell it to switch to the side of the screen, then switch back to bottom, which seems to work but I will have to keep on doing this time and time again. I wish they just made a better version of 10.6.8 which still works with everything.
