I recently used Carbon Copy Cloner to back up my main 3TB HD to a 4TB HD. Ever since, Spotlight has been sucking up cycles. It just won’t stop. Obviously, there is no way to TURN IT OFF via System Preferences. Is there a wall to KILL IT PERMANENTLY??!! This is really annoying.

Thanks

I wonder if it was Spotlight indexing your CCC cloned 4TB whilst in the making, that was causing the incredibly long transfer time to create it.
Spotlight is a dirty metadata trawler. I keep it at arms length as far as possible.

Wow, it’s still indexing?!?!? WTF. I just added the HD to the Spotlight list of things not to index, but it’s still indexing. Going to try the technique Squishy Tia linked.

Thanks

Update: it worked! Thanks Squishy Tia! The fans have spooled down, and MenuMeters show the CPU activity has gone back down to it’s usual 2% at idle rather than the 25% or so it was showing.
