I am beyond speechless. iTunes apparently no longer plays audio CDs. I found and downloaded from an Apple support/download page a previous version of iTunes, but the installer sees the newer version already installed and then quits. A useless download.

Any suggestions? I just cannot believe this. How f**king stupid.

I'm using itunes version 12.8.2.3 right now with a CD as I'm typing this. Is there a newer version that removed that functionality? If so, that is crazy town!

edit:
I think this is most current version...seems to have CD support....https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1977?locale=en_US

Thanks, db. My mistake. It DOES recognize an actual CD. What I was trying to play was a disk image of a CD. And that's because I'm pretty sure I've played audio from them many times before. When mounted, they show in the Finder as a CD.

Oh well. I'll move on. But thanks again.

Nothing to see here anymore.

Thanks, BD. But, sadly, no. I should clarify by saying that iTunes WILL play the files in the disc image if I first drag them into iTunes. But Clementine apparently doesn't like wav files. It seems the simple act of playing music on computers is geared only toward the consumer which, I'm assuming, have shifted away from CDs in favor of the other formats.

So, to play the contents of an audio CD disc image, I now know I have to drag the files into iTunes to play them like a CD.

I could be wrong: maybe iTunes never did play disc images. But I DO know that the DVD Player app WILL play DVD disc images.

Thanks, guys. Much appreciated!

I'm trying to be brief with my answers because I don't want to take up a lot of your time (you're already sharing your knowledge). :D

But, to clarify, I'm able to play wav (and aiff) files, both, if I either drag them into an iTunes playlist, or open them in my pro audio applications. What I was hoping for was to simply play a sequence of files like a CD player would. iTunes will do that with wav and other files (even from disc images), but I first have to drag the files into a playlist. Not that that is difficult; it's just not like inserting a disc and clicking "Play." And my pro audio apps aren't made to play sequences of files; I can only play them one at a time, manually.

So, again, this is no big deal. I think what happened is that I'm stuck in a time where CDs (and their players) were still fairly common, and everyone else has moved on. And now, especially because of the name I gave this thread, I sound like the old guy barking, "Hey, you kids! Get offa my lawn!" Oy.
