I've used Automator before, to add the tif extension to TIFF image files. Opening that workflow, I simply changed the file Kind and other parameters...

but, when I run the workflow, Automator can't complete it, stating:
Quote:
The action "Rename Finder items: Add Text" was not supplied with the required data.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Just wondering... in Finder>Prefs?Advanced, is Ask before changing extension checked?

Does aiff work?

Yes, that Finder preference WAS checked, but I'm pretty sure it was when I used Automator last time, too.

And I did try aiff, but got the same result. I just can't figure out what else Automator is looking for.

And I just tried the original workflow to add the tif extension. Where it worked before, now it no longer does; it generates the same error.

10.12.6 BUT... I just figured it out. Automator was not helpful, in that it wasn't clear about what/where the problem was.

I discovered there are TWO different "Kinds" for aif audio files: "AIF Audio File" and "AIFF Audio" (I have no idea why the difference).

When I attempted to find "AIF Audio Files" there simply weren't any (without an extension). When I instead searched for "AIFF Audio," it worked. So the problem was NOT in the "Add Text" options box, it was that no files matched the search term.

How bizarre that Automator wouldn't simply say "No items matched the search term."

So... thank you anyway, BD. I appreciate it!

Wow, bizarre indeed, but nice work on your part, thanks for posting the cure. :)

PS. You can edit your subject title to add SOLVED if you wish.
