Just from this topic,
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/21 ... 0&tstart=0
I picked out: try launching Mail from the apps folder, not the Dock and see if it launches. The Dock alias may be obsolete.

Try reinstalling the last combo update for OS X, then if no improvement latest Safari? Short of that solving it I'd probably reinstall OS X.

Thanks Anon, I already used Pacifist to replace Mail & it didn't work, (didn't expect it to), will try Safari, then the Combo if that doesn't work, but this is as much an exercise in trying to figure out the exact cause than getting it to work. :)

The traceback looks like JavascriptCore which has been part of OS X since...10.3(ish)? The crash occurs during memory allocation.

I was thinking running the installer might replace whatever bits of that library are misbehaving.

Just out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have in this machine and is the dynamic pager enabled?

This eMac has 2 GB of RAM, the G5 rge drive was running had 10 GB.

Might it be a cache file?

Any chance you might have installed leopard webkit then had it replace the system webkit with leopard webkit?

Yeah, but I'm thinking the version of Leopard Webkit you installed may have been optimized for G5 CPUs which is why it crashes on a G4.

You could always just download another version of leopard webkit and install it. That should take its place and, fingers crossed, work.

Downloaded a much newer version of Leopard Webkit on the eMac, installed it & ran the scripts to update Webkit Apps & then dropped Mail on the droplet & it created a new copy linked to the new WebKit… Whoot… Mail not only works now, but strangely the old unlinked Mail App works fine to.

Thanks so much for your help, WebKit never crossed my wracked mind. :D

Excellent. It only crossed my mind because I installed it recently on an iMac G5 I had to wipe & setup for someone.

You could also see what happens when you try a different account. It's possible it's being triggered by a cache file or some other aspect of the immediate environment.

That's good. Then at least it's not you're data causing the problem. I think it may be back to reinstalling stuff until it works.

Is the stack trace always about the same?

Mail is working fine now that I replaced Leopard Webkit, even the old version of Mail without Webkit now works.
