Well, the old beast is still kicking but has been demoted to the living room as a media server.
I sourced a used blu-ray drive and extra internal SATA card and hope this will have a happy ending with Toast Titanium.

I also found a supplier of MA252G/A Apple AirPort Extreme/Bluetooth Upgrade Kit: Runway card 820-1830-A 630-7054 on Ebay.
Is this the correct wireless/bluetooth card for a Quad? I've heard mixed results and even disaster stories from attempting to use Airport cards from other G5's in the Quad. Anyone install one of these with some level of success?

Hey, long time no see! :)

That does appear to be the one.

Other possible options…

https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7811UN/

https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7722UTN/

Both these say 10.4+, check to be sure that id 10.4+ PPC also, not just IntelMac, though I I can't test it right now I "think" I found PPC drivers for the last one…

Thanks man! I wasn't aware of these products but was kinda hoping something like this existed. I have a BT USB dongle on this G5 already. I'm feeling better about that purchase than the official Mac part. From my experience, Airport cards tend to degrade in performance over time, so 10 years later all of these are not created equal. They are probably at the end of their lifespan.

I find these have better range & speed than Airport cards, the important part is finding out if they have drivers for the PPC Macs or not. :)

I bought one of these kits.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Late-2005-Power ... 5b2c813ca4

It lasted about 10 min until it broke on me :/

I wired the antennas to sit on top of the superdrive, it got good signal until some how the cable solder joint or whatever shredded and I was back to sharing internet via my MacBook Pro 17in or iMac 27.

My only problem with G5 WiFi/BT are the external antennas snapping off or otherwise getting dislodged, which severely affects their range. Fixing it is pretty simple, just clean the antenna jack from any remnants of the old antenna and install a new one... I guess by the time of quads they came up with a better idea for antennas?

It looks to me that the internal antennas used on the late 05 models are just ripped right out of the Mac mini G4. Not sure where they lie exactly in the case however.

Goofy. I really don't know how they expect to get decent penetration of the case, but maybe the modified the case in the quads. Thinner metal or a different alloy, that kind of thing.

Aside from the antennas snapping off in the first gen (PCI-X) G5s they really do work quite well. I have more trouble with the first generation Apple Wireless Keyboards conking out than the G5. I have a mini resting on top of the G5 so it's pretty easy to diagnose whether the system or the peripheral is the troublemaker.

Of course I inherited a drawer full of the things at one point because my workplace apparently had no idea what these little nubs were for but man doesn't the WiFi suck on these G5s?

The Antenna wires are a bit more substantial on my Quad G5, like this...

I have one dual 2.5Ghz G5 thats currently at my buddies place. I would like to get wifi on that one since its far easier then the quads. Its also has the Panasonic LCS in it, so glad its not the early Delphi unit.
