Has anyone tried this on 10.6.8?
My current version is 23.0.0.162.

I've not updated the iMac yet - but feeling more and more like I have to. And yet...

Anyway - have any of you downloaded and installed this on Snow?

What about this one?
This is where I was sent from the old link that I used to have to check syst admin and get it - (now not working)

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

Trouble is - here I have to check the OS version that I'm not using. Or go to archived versions, which aren't any more uptodate than I am...

Thank you BDA!
Which link did you use for the download?

I found a youtube, of all things, (I never go there) of 2 cousins singing "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen who died yesterday that I really feel I have to listen to.

Mrs H: with Firefox you no longer need Flash for YouTube. Almost everything there now plays with HTML 5. In fact, unless you have an addon that can specifically allow Flash, it's impossible to use Flash there.

Who knew? Obviously you knew! Thanks!
I hardly ever go there (and recently when I did it didn't work, I just assumed it was a flash thing) Now I don't know what it was/is. And my cousins singing of Leonard Cohen wasn't there after all, but on Spotify, which I have NO intention of using.

I am just now being nagged about a new esr version for Firefox 45.5.0 - time to take action.

Firefox 50.0.1 and 50.0.2 have come out in rapid-fire succession this week, the latter was a 0-day exploit likely being used by some law enforcement agency/agencies to track down visitors to websites on Tor. They uncovered the actual identity of the person visiting the tor-hosted site and reported it to a now-shuttered public web server. Anyone using FirefoxESR will be prompted to update to 45.5.1 to close this vulnerability. In theory so long as you weren't downloading child porn or whatever the site was hosting you're probably safe, but it's only a matter of time.

Also, it looks like Firefox is pulling the rug out for x86 (32-bit) support as of 53, so all releases after that point will have no hope of functioning on pre-10.8. x64 has no 32-bit NPAPI plugin compatibility, so with that going away (Flash is, of course, 64-bit), they're going to nuke 32-bit support. The next ESR should be 52 so in theory this means the 52 ESR should still have 32-bit support, but that'll be the first ESR with electrolysis (multiprocess).

Got the update to 45.1.1 yesterday, but looking further into it, Mozilla said the exploit making use of this vulnerability was in the wild for Windows. Nothing about Mac. Will look for something more on this, or maybe you have a link.

Here's one conforming Windows only.
http://thehackernews.com/2016/11/firefo ... pdate.html

And here with Mac possibly implicated.
http://gadgets.ndtv.com/apps/news/mozil ... te=classic

But does one have to be using Tor to be affected?

ESR 45.5.1 was released to patch the Tor vulnerability. Since 45.5.1 was released for Mac, that should mean the Tor vulnerability is present on Mac. It's technically a vulnerability in the way Firefox parses SVG data, but everyone is talking about Tor because that's where it was being used. The exploit in the wild was probably targeting Windows users, but if its present on a Mac all they need to do is use a different payload that works under OSX.

I don't know if the 50.0.1 release was Windows-only. I suppose if I wanted to pour through the bugzilla thread I could find out. It wouldn't have affected ESR 45 because that bug is only present in 49 and 50.

Thanks MB, more on this here, where it says it's been actively exploited for Windows, but OS X also vulnerable. Since it appeared it was Windows only, wasn't going to bother updating on all volumes running FF, but now glad that I did.

Firefox and Tor users should install the fixes at once. People using both Tor and mainstream versions of Firefox are believed to be protected from the attack by setting the Firefox security slider to "High," although the setting will prevent many sites from working as expected.

Not seeing any slider in my FF prefs--or anywhere, for that matter--for security. Maybe only in post 45?

I'm on 50.0.2 here and there's no slider present. I think they were looking at IE.

Edit: Oh, I bet it's some weird thing with the Tor browser, which is a special portable (no installation required) version of Firefox. Based on the arstechnica comments it bundles noscript... oh dear god that comment thread is full of a lot of comments about noscript...

I guess their six week cycle finally proved too much for them.

OK, time to uninstall Flash. Goodbye! Don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out.

You can sign up for a redistribution agreement for free to gain access. Occasionally I've signed up for it twice in one year and they approved both of them so I don't think they look too closely at applications or agreements. All you need is some information you don't mind giving Adobe (email address, physical address, etc.) and the patience to wait a couple days for them to process the submission. They haven't mailed me anything in a few years of this (used to have to do it to redistribute Reader), so the physical address may not be a sticky point. The email though is required since its the Adobe ID authorized to access the (now restricted) site. Oddly enough Flash is restricted but Reader isn't. Consistency!

I've uninstalled Flash, and will see how it goes without it. So far, TinyPic continues to work, although the captcha sometimes complains that a "plugin is needed." If I keep clicking away to get a new one, I eventually get one that works. The only trouble spot is finding an HTML5 Internet speed test that works reliably. This one seems to be pretty decent. Gives me results fairly close to the Flash based ones.

http://www.measurementlab.net/tools/ndt/

Other than that, I probably don't need Flash.
