I went to download an app that I know is free.
The directions for app downloading on apple support say:
When you find an app that you want, follow these steps:
Tap the app.
To buy an app, tap the price on the right side of the screen, then tap Buy. To get a free app, tap Get on the right side of the screen, then tap Install.
If asked, enter your password. You can also use Touch ID for app purchases.

But the free app, only said "Buy" - but there was no price.

I have no credit card on file, so I went ahead and clicked buy. It was free.

Is "Get" no longer an option?

Thanks, Limnos for the link.

It's sort of what I thought, but nice to see I'm not the only one confused.

I couldn't find any statement that the app was Free whilst accessing the app store on the iPhone; I had to look back at the description I found there on the MBP to verify that it was indeed "Free"

I also began a dummy selection for an app that cost to see how it was set up. Instead of saying buy, it gave the price in the box.
It seems to me someone in marketing could have made this clearer.

It seems everything is monetised in Apple's world, even the free stuff.

Yes. It makes little sense. I haven't seen it personally. When I use the Spanish store for free apps it says 'obtener' (get) but I know some people are presented with a 'purchase' button for apps that are free.

As roam says, everything is monetised nowadays.
