Time Machine had been backing up hourly. But just now (7:45pm) I noticed that it hasn't run since 5:36pm.

Confused.

Have you tried turning it OFF & back ON?

Change the Time Machine Backup Schedule…

Thanks, BD. I turned it off, restarted, then turned it back on again and it seems to be behaving now.

Sometimes Time Machine will log an error in Console when it goes to backup but can't run the backup. That error is the reason the backup hasn't run.

Since your fix was that simple I doubt anything major was being logged, but since you knew when the backup should have kicked off, you should look in Console for something interesting from Time Machine or Spotlight (mds I think).
