Well, no iTunes in 9.2.1 or 9.2.2 updates, doesn't look like 9.0.4 update has it either, & all copies of my 9.1 updates get checksum error, but it's dated Jan 2001 & would be v 1 I guess.

So it seems, there'd be more than a Year's worth of OS9 Install Discs that couldn't've had iTunes, and only a very narrow time frame that could've had v 2.x on them.

Then it's more important than ever that we track it down in all 16 languages that Mac OS 9 supported.

Agreed, just trying to figure out where/what they might be, from those dates, it appears that it's only on 9.2 & up Install Discs that came with certain Macs, not the Retail 9.0 Disc from 1999. :)

Well, I finally figured out where my G5 recovery disk images were, copied over the .gz that's basically an image of the OS9 components and... no iTunes in it. The OS9 Application folder is neutered, probably because the G5 can't boot into OS9, so you'd never need iTunes in OS9 form. The thought had occurred to me that maybe I had deleted the stuff out of the Applications folder, to free up some space, but no such luck.

If I had to guess, I'd say the best chance would be the last OS9 bootable Mac, which was that MDD model they kept in production long after they had moved to G5s.

Otherwise it'd have to be in standalone download form.

And this could be a totally stupid question, so forgive me if you've already checked, but Mulder have you checked the archive.org for Apple's international sites? If they archived the US installers on Apple's US site, surely http://www.apple.fr would contain the French installers? If that works you could go from international site to international site, downloading each language in turn.

For the record, iTunes 2.0.4 was released on or around March 22, 2002. So systems released before that date certainly wouldn't include it.

Some QS2002s may have it also...
Introduction Date: January 28, 2002 Discontinued Date: August 13, 2002

Also...
iBook (Late 2001), PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet), And some eMacs that could boot OS9.

I did check archive.org for the country-specific Apple sites, and no luck there, either.

Yeah after I wrote that I tried it, and found that the download links all went to an apple.com support website... which was blocked by a robots.txt file. My French is really rusty so I had a devil of a time figuring out the site, which is why I wrote up the question rather than trying the first time.

I've downloaded it but it will be awhile before I can get access to a Mac to open the DMG with and inspect it to see what's in it.

I couldn't mount the DMG in 10.8.5, said dmg format too old, downloading again on PPC/10.5.8 to see if it opens/mounts.

Looks like it'll take a couple of hours to D/L. :(

I got it all extracted down to the Netboot IMG, got it mounted, and... no iTunes on the HD, according to EasyFind.

What OS did it mount in?

Are there .pkgs on the dmg?

10.5.8. AppleCD Player was just for playing CDs in OS9. I liked the interface, it was a lot less clunky than trying to play them through iTunes.

The .img is just an installed image of OS9, no .pkg or other files. There was an "Applications HD" img alongside, but it's blank. I would guess that's a read/write image for the user to install Applications onto.

Just so you know how to do this later, to mount the DMG in a modern OS, use Disk Utility to convert the DMG first. I set it to read only (non-compressed). The .img files inside need to be dealt with the same way. Converting them will allow you to mount them so you can use them for Classic at least. Takes all of two minutes.

Edit: I believe I just found iTunes 2.0.4 for y'all:

http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/apple/iTunes/

Enjoy!

I have located the Spanish version of iTunes 2.0.4. It's on Dropbox at this URL: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zx9ufokp4qj12 ... 02.0.4.zip

So now I have it in US English, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish; only 12 more language versions to find. :D
