B.
You originally responded to my question in the Apple Discussion Group (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22987990#22987990). I was doing some research before ordering the Wireless USB Adapter.
You recommended (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7722UTN/Specs), a Edimax
EW-7722UTn 300Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n
Mini-size USB Adapter, which I think is an ideal match for what I am looking for.

and you then stated that you found a driver that would work for OS X 10.4.11 (http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_download ... hp?sn=5002). I do not find the .dmg driver

Also I have another question. Is Ediatek (the Product Name) and Mediatek (The Driver Resource). Are they the same Company?

Darrell

Hope you don't mind me butting in, but the link is:
http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_download ... hp?sn=5002

The link seems to work fine, but without the hardware in question I can't fully test it.

As far as I can tell Mediatek and Edimax are completely unrelated companies. The reason the Mediatek drivers work with the Edimax is because, as far as your computer is concerned, their two devices are identical.

Sometimes manufacturers will change their device's firmware to use custom values, which means only their drivers will work with their hardware, but sometimes they leave it at generic (chipset manufacturer) values so Linux guys don't hunt them down and beat them over the head with a cudgel. Plus it's cheaper to go the latter route, and every nickel counts in the budget hardware arena.

MonkeyBoy,
I have no problem with your contribution. Thanks for responding and explaining the confusion I had with I
Idiatek and Mediatek.

I must be blind, though. The link you supplied is the same link as BD Aqua, but I do not see the driver link. Am I overlooking it or is it in plain sight?

Code:
http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01-1_windowsDetail.php?sn=5002

This takes me straight to a download page where I have to type in my name & email address, then hit submit, and in return it gives me a .dmg file. I gave them my usual fake name & email address and they didn't bat an eye.

On May, 5th 2011, MediaTek bought Ralink Technology Corporation, which makes the chip in that USB dongle.

That's interesting, I hadn't realized they had been acquired. Explains why Mediatek has some generic drivers on their site though, they're effectively the OEM.

I hate when companies shut down websites though, they never seem to put up all the information on the new site.

Update to Searching for Wireless USB Adapter for G4 PowerBook. I worked endlessly with BD Aqua trying to get the Mini Edimax Wireless Adapter which had no documentation for Mac setup to work with my G4 PowerBook. I purchased it from Mac Sales(QWC) and they said this deice was compatible with Mac. The end result: I spent $$$ for an Adapter I could not use. BD said "not to fear". After numerous attempts in trying to get the Wireless Adapter to operate correctly, I feel BD Aqua went Above and Beyond in his Support Role. He searched and found in his collection of used Mac Accessories a Wireless USB Adapter. He sent it to me, provided me with a link for a Driver and SUCCESS, THE Wireless Adapter worked. I credit BD's diligence and hard work for getting a Wireless USB device to work for me. It took many hours to resolve, but without BD Aqua's assistance, it would never have been accomplished. Since that time, my Family has purchased a much smaller Wireless Adapter, and I sent back the Adapter to BD to place back into his collection. THANK YOU BD!
