Urgh ! It's so long since I refurbed my Cubes...

They're all bootable so they're slave drives, I think the CUBEDVDR8DL
comes with a set of brackets, if you're gonna order from them I would call to
double check.

there's CUBEDVDR8DL-A and CUBEDVDR8DL with a difference of $80! my guess to the price difference is the master/slave drive issue (?) the specs look identical

I'm not sure what the difference is but I bet it comes down to the optical drive bracket being different. For one you need an extra part to mount it, the other you transfer the bracket over from the old drive.

If you have a Power Mac G4 Cube that currently has a CD-ROM drive, DVD-ROM drive or CD-R/RW only drive installed, then please see item number CUBEDVDR8DL instead.

Just a guess, though I'm pretty sure all Cube drives came set to slave (since the HD & optical share the same bus, when the optical is set to master then the HD has to be set to slave, which causes FWTDM not to work).

When I had two cubes (both with working DVD drives, yay), I did a clean install on one and updated it to X.4.11, then cloned it (CCC) to a FW drive to install on the other (because I was lazy, and it is quicker).

Don't know why CCC isn't working for you, but it sure did for me. And, believe it or not, a friend of mine wanted and bought the other Cube. I just stuck a bluetooth dongle in mine and it works fine with a wireless mouse and keyboard... and since I put an airport card in it, I'm using it as an internet music jukebox. Fine for music, lame, lame, lame for video (of course, LOL).

My configuration is 120 GB drive, 1.5 GB RAM, airport card, and some video card (can't remember, Geoforce?) that is core image capable. It is cubetastic.

Hope you can get yours going the way you want! It runs much better with Tiger than with the Jaguar I received it with.
