At least the 6200 didn't catch on fire.

It was amazing the Performa 52xx/53xx machines didn't; they had an Apple 15" multiscan monitor built in with all the problems of both the 62xx/63xx machines and all the problems of the 15" multiscan. They were horrible.

As for the PowerBook 5300 series, I never encountered even a single one of the defective batteries. To their credit Apple nipped that one pretty quickly, and the problem wasn't really Apple's fault. On the other hand, I do blame Apple for their horrible runtime on battery after they switched to NiMH.

Yeah, it's a shame that OEMs get blamed for supplier problems, but on the other hand OEMs are supposed to be managing their suppliers. I suppose Apple should count their blessings that the batteries simply caught fire and didn't outright explode. It's just Apple's bad luck at the time that one caught fire at a press event, and that it was owned by a member of the press (thereby ensuring maximum coverage). I hesitate to even imagine the amount of coverage Businessweek devoted to it.

By comparison Dell batteries have caught fire at numerous press events yet little to nothing has ever been made out of it.
