Hello Fellows.

When i insert any DVD in drive freeze and kernel panic.
I'm working perfectly about 2 months in the machine and the only problem that remained was this.

How I fix it? :bonk:

Cheers

does this happen with data dvds and movie dvds? what extra .kexts are you using? is your DVD drive ATA or SATA? have you tried another port on your motherboard? have you tried inserting a DVD in safe mode?

It's probably because it's opening DVD Player on insert. Go to System Preferences, then to CD's & DVD's I think and turn off DVD Player. Try your DVD's with VLC instead.

I'm insert a data DVD. No Extra .kexts. DVD drive is ATA.
They say it happens because it has 4 GB of RAM. Really?

I will try the tips from MC68K and then post updates.

Check the logs in Applications/Utilities/Console. Look for a panic.log or a Panic Reporter log. Post one here. Odds are you have a bad DVD drive or a bad ATA bus.

ive converted to all SATA for simplicity on my setup but i know with .kext packs i have DLed they have always included a Jmicron .kext

i did a quick search and found that the driver, JMicronATA, allows the JMicron chip is to function with more than 4GB of ram. Sounds like your problem exactly, maybe

unless ur budget limited, a SATA DVD DL drive is only like 30 bucks, may be worth investing in for future compatibility. you could buy at a brick and mortar store and have the option to take it back
